Finally Finished - the secret project! from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

Lots of details here.

This project started with a bible verse in my head many months ago, but without knowing what to do with it.

Back in June and just before our trip to Nashville, some of my quilting buddies and I took a day to shop in some of the area quilt and needlework shops. While in one of them one of the girls was looking at the panels. I am not a panel person. But I wandered over there and decided to look, and that was when this panel told me that it had to be part of ...

Busy like the bees from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

...with a little bit of sewing. It’s all good.

I'm going to be as "Readers Digest Condensed" version as possible because I've got a lot going on right now. Katrina was here for Mother's Day weekend and we had a blast--I can’t believe how much I got done, even while talking! A backing for the Antelope Canyon quilt, quilted a machine mat for my Luminaire and prepped the binding for it, and upcycled a pair of jeans for Katrina by inserting a gusset in each pants leg with pieces from a vintage quilt. That was ...

Finally Finished—the Down & Dirty Civil War Repro Quilt! from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

—the first finish of 2025 AND finished on Worldwide Quilting Day.

Goodness, where does the time go? It’s ~~February~~ March and I have a finished quilt to share with you! And talk about uplifting—let’s just say with all the happenings in our family circle and the world, it’s nice to see something get accomplished, although I honestly thought by this time I would have at least two quilts done. Anyone who truly knows me is laughing their butts off reading that statement.

I started this quilt in 2013 when our youngest, David, said he would like ...

It’s been a while. Let’s catch up. from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

…but let me catch my breath.

So…a lot has been happening. Others may not think so much, but this old gal just retired last week after working full time for the last 49 years and I am exhausted.

Tattoo Quilt: All blocks and center panel are pieced, and I’m almost done ripping off the paper! And yes, it is the ONLY project I have worked on this year.

Studio: I had been researching electronic or digital cutters. After going down the YouTube rabbit hole, I borrowed Cindy’s ScanNCut. End result was going to the Brother dealer to ...

Little makes from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

Events pop up and I am often inspired to make something and have little time to meet my deadlines. And two of the events were in August.

First, Cindy celebrated an important birthday. I had no idea what to do for her until the day before her birthday. She recently purchased her first serger—a Bernette Funlock 64. I made a serger mat with threadcatcher. The pattern is from allpeoplequilt.com:

I took no photos. Again, one of those lost in the moment times. But I FaceTimed with Cindy this weekend and asked her to take ...

Progress! And a little tip. from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

Baby quilt 1 ("Palate Cleanser") is coming along.

The baby quilt has only the top and bottom borders left to be quilted and then the binding. I quilted it on The Beaut with an edge-to-edge design from Designs by Juju (NAYY). It has not been without struggles, but for the most part it has gone well and I am pleased. I'm figuring out what I'll do on the top and bottom borders and hope to finish it next weekend.

So here's a tip that has helped me: Franken-batting. If you haven’t heard this phrase then you ...

Moving right along—transitions; life and studio from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

There are many reasons why I only had 3 blog posts last year. I posted a few times on Instagram, but not much more than here.

Even without the pandemic, life took some crazy turns for us in 2020. Hubs and I made decisions regarding our future, and I had to make some decisions regarding my work life.

Due to work life, school took a back seat. I dropped the classes I had enrolled in that would have started mid-January 2020; the workload ramped up that same week. Over a year later, I’m working from home 11-12 hours per ...
